THE NORTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN IN THE MINISTRY, INC.
Under the auspices of the Holy Spirit and guidance of the late Reverend William H. Brock, the vision of the North Carolina Association for Women in the Ministry, Inc., (NCAWM) was launched by the Reverend Mary M. Heggie. Chartered and incorporated interdenominationally for women in the ministerial profession, locally and statewide on March 20, 1985, this Association held its first meeting at the Richard B. Harrison Library, 1313 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, North Carolina on November 15, 1984 from 7:30 pm until 9:00pm. Representatives from various counties were present.
PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION
- To Enhance the spiritual and intellectual well-being of women ministers throughout the state;
- To Encourage and promote a better working Christian relationship with each other and with our brothers in the ministry;
- To Promote and encourage ministerial professional participation in all areas of church life available to the clergy regardless of sex;
- To Promote harmony, spiritual and Christian development with each other and all members of the clergy;
- To Promote and to carry out the Christian commission as stated by Christ in St. Luke 4:18-19, where He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Finally,
- To Sensitize the general public to the anointing of God’s hands on Women to become members of the clergy.
